Nan’s research focuses on clothing use during WWII. Her book Clothing Goes To War, about repurposing and innovation inspired by clothing scarcity and rationing during WWII was published in 2022 by Intellect Books. Readers, used to current day over-consumption and waste of clothing, will find inspiration from the conservative efforts of consumers during the 1930s and 40s to "Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do, Or Do Without."
